Advanced placement

Students who have taken French, German or Spanish in high school or have otherwise acquired proficiency in those languages  are placed at the appropriate level on the basis of a placement test, which is given during Customs Sessions for entering freshmen and at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. This test is computerized and can be taken on a walk-in basis until the end of the registration/drop-add period. On completing the course in which he or she is placed, the student receives credit for all lower-numbered courses in the 1010-1020-2010-2020 sequence. For example, a students placed in 2020 would, on passing the course, receive credit for 1010, 1020, and 2010. No grade is assigned for credit earned through advanced placement.
