Language lab facility

Welcome to the DIGITAL wonders of the language lab! Here is a list of selected hardware and software available in the language lab.

Hardware

  • 30 multimedia desktop computers with Headphone, DVD player and CD burner
  • 2 servers
  • 2 flatbed scanners
  • 1 Network printer
  • Other analog A/V equipment

Software

The following applications are available on desktop computers in the language lab:

  • General-purpose application package
    • Microsoft Office 2003 Professional: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and FrontPage (with French and Spanish support)
  • Multimedia players
    • DVD player
    • Microsoft MediaPlayer
    • RealPlayer
  • Internet applications
    • Web: Internet Explorer 7
    • Email: Outlook Express
    • FTP: WS_FTP, WinSCP (secured FTP)
    • SSH: SSH-enabled Tera Term Pro (also supports Japanese)
    • Telnet: SimpleTerm (with Chinese support)
  • Webpage authoring
    • Microsoft FrontPage 2003
  • Multilingual language processing
    • Both input methods and fonts are installed on all lab computers.
  • Image processing
    • Photoshop CS 2
  • Audio processing
    • Audacity for digital audio recording
  • Electronic document publishing
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • CD burning
    • Easy CD Creator 5.0 (Basic edition)
  • Language learning
    • Placement tests for French, German and Spanish
    • RosettaStone V 2.1.5 (Most languages)

 

There are many things you can do in the language lab:

Access course materials online;
Edit document with Microsoft Office XP. Multilingual support is available such as Spanish and French spelling checkers and Chinese and Japanese language support;
Access the Internet such as web surfacing and using email;
Record and/or digitizing photos and other images;
Record and/or digitize audio and video materials;
Edit and publish webpages;
Duplicate audio and video cassettes and CDs;
Store and remotely access your personal data files (Note: Restricted to FL graduate students and faculty).
